The power of the new moon
5 simple rituals

You don't need an hour. You don't need the perfect setup. You need 10 minutes and the willingness to feel.

Let me guess. You saw the word "ritual" and immediately pictured candles, an entire evening alone, maybe incense, maybe a shower afterwards, and you thought: "I don't have time for this, not this week or the next, or probably ever, if I'm honest."

Good. Because what I want to show you here requires none of those things.

The new moon comes every single month, whether you have noticed or not. It is the sky's darkest moment, the point where nothing is visible yet, but everything is still possible. In ancient tradition it is the time for planting seeds, not because the moon is magical in itself, but because it gives you a fixed point to return to, once a month, where you stop and ask yourself: what do I actually want?

You don't need an hour. You don't need the perfect setup. You need ten minutes and the willingness to feel. Here are five rituals you can choose between, or do all five, the next time the sky is dark.

1. The one wish (2 minutes)

Not a list. Not ten things you think you should want. One sentence that begins with "I wish for..." Write it down anywhere, the back of a receipt counts. The point is not perfection in the wording. The point is that you actually asked yourself.

2. Hand on heart (1 minute)

Place your hand on your chest. Breathe slowly, three times. Say, aloud or just inside yourself: "I am starting fresh." That is it. Your body believes it, even if your mind is sceptical right now.

3. The empty space (2 minutes)

Clear one small physical space, a desk, a bag, a drawer that has been bothering you for months. Not because mess is dangerous, but because a cleared corner is a tangible, physical symbol that there is now room for something new.

4. Three breaths at the window (2 minutes)

Stand at a window, or go outside if you can. Look up. Maybe you can glimpse the moon, maybe you can only see how dark the sky is right now, and that is actually the whole point. Breathe deeply, three times. Let your shoulders drop a little with each breath.

5. Light it and speak it (3 minutes)

Light a candle. Say your intention aloud, ideally the one from ritual number one. Blow the candle out. There is something about saying a thing out loud that makes it real in a way thoughts alone never quite manage.

That is it. Ten minutes, and you have done something most women never allow themselves: stopped, in the middle of everything else, and asked herself what she actually wants.

Your inner wild woman does not notice whether the candle had the right scent, or whether you sat in lotus position with a straight back. She notices that you showed up. That is the whole ritual.
